Movie posters collecting may not be as popular as stamp collecting but they also can be fun and exciting. It can also be taken seriously to make it profitable. They can either be hanged on walls with tape or preserved in glass frames for posterity.

There are “meetups” happening around the world on a wide range of topics from knitting to molecular chemistry. The topic you choose (if there is n audience for it) doesn’t really matter as much as the intent to physically meet at a chosen location. A targeted audience will always appreciate the opportunity to get together with like minds and press the flesh especially when the value of Vintage baseball cards such a meeting is made clear to them.

A good rule of thumb is to take the midpoint between high and low book value, and multiply by.50 (50%). Using a quick example, let’s suppose the high book value of your card is $20, the low value $8. The midpoint is $14. Fifty percent of $14 is $7, which is just below low book value. If this seems unfair, remember what we mentioned above. The dealer intends to resell the card at a profit. Be fully aware of this before selling to a dealer.

Detractors cite his .273 lifetime batting average, low for a Hall candidate. Joe Gordon hit .268 lifetime. Gil Hodges’ page in the Baseball Encyclopedia has only one bold figure to indicate league leader, for strikeouts in 1951. This is the least acceptable excuse I’ve heard for his exclusion from Cooperstown.

In order for us to evaluate baseball cards, we have to answer a few questions. First, like a stock, how much upside? After selling buing baseball cards Oldsmar that have been held for a period of time, did we make more money holding these cards or would a savings account or CD have made us more money?

This was the era when a few extra pennies meant that I walked or rode my bicycle about a mile to the store below my house and purchased Topps sports cards wholesale. It meant that they were separated into teams and put into a small toolbox that my father had made for me. I collected Yankee baseball and Mickey Mantle cards along with others until I graduated from high school and went off to college. This was the year that my cards were given to a younger boy in the neighborhood by my mother. To this day I still get a funny feeling when I walk into a store and see the new packs of sports and racing cards.

I grew up in an old urban (blue collar) neighborhood where there certainly WERE ‘bad’ kids. There was one boy a few doors down the street who had lost an eye in a gang fight and did not attend school. When we saw him coming, we’d cross the street. There was another guy who, although about the same age as my friends and I, was nearly two feet taller and could pass for an adult by the time he was twelve. He was often drunk on his front stoop along with his mother. We said “Hi” to him but didn’t hang out there. There was a local Police station, but it seemed more a place that dispatched Policemen when they were needed (or just to supervise street crossings near schools in the morning) than it did a place where kids in trouble were taken to.

If you love your baseball card collection, the facts are clear. Rather than selling baseball cards as an investment, do it as a hobby and have a lot of fun. For investments, look elsewhere.
