Last week, when we announced that we are now an official authorized online retailer for modern watches, many of you asked what that meant for our weekly selection of vintage watches. Well, we are here to tell you that we will continue to sell vintage watches here in the HODINKEE Shop, just as we did before. Nothing is changing. After a brief hiatus, we’ve got a cool collection of tool watches, vintage Rolexes, and a cool stopwatch this week. Read on to see some of the highlights.
1984 Rolex GMT-Master II ‘Fat Lady’ Ref. 16760
It’s no secret that the Rolex GMT-Master II is a cool watch, and this example is hard proof. The reference 16760 was the first GMT-Master II and it boasts a couple of key differences from previous GMT-Masters. The 16760 was given the nickname “Fat Lady” in reference to its thicker case and the large indexes with white gold surrounds. The example we have here is in very good condition and will complement any wrist. You can read more about this watch here.
1970s Breitling Chrono-Matic Ref. 7651
Breitling, oh Breitling, how we love your vintage tool watches. This 1970s Chrono-Matic reference 7651 is exactly why we continue to drool over what once was. This watch is powered by the caliber 11 movement, which, if you remember, was also used in some classic vintage Heuers. In addition, the bright colors and unusual case shape of this chronograph really make this watch sing. You can read more about this listing here.
1972 Rolex Day-Date ‘Wide Boy’ Reference 1803
The Day-Date reference 1803 is one of the most beautiful watches ever produced by Rolex. Not only does it just look great, but it also has solidified its place in watch history as one of the most iconic luxury watches of all time. The example we have here is made of yellow gold and features a stunning smoky grey dial with gorgeous patina to boot. But the coolest part about this watch is the inscription on the back, confirming that is was gifted to the previous owner in 1973 for 30 years of service at the Arabian American Oil Company. You can read more about this watch here.
