Over two years, filmmakers Alex Jablonski and Kahlil Hudson documented the lives of firefighters in southern Oregon, from initial hiring and training to the grueling work of fighting wildfires. The characters are fascinating, their stories are wonderfully “human,” and the film itself is beautifully shot and edited. Don’t miss this.

To paint a moving picture with light – that is the work of a cinematographer. Vince Staples’ new album FM dropped this past week and he released this visual treatment of the standout single, FUN. The twist? The entire video takes place inside Google Maps – or at least a very convincing recreation of its user interface. Seemingly from the vantage of the “Google Maps truck,” the viewer is taken on a journey through Staples’ native North Long Beach, California, to witness some of the hardship and destitution the rapper so frequently relays in his rhymes. A plot twist at the end of the video reveals what the video ultimately is: an examination of how modern technology can mediate the distance between social groups and the consequent moral implications of that mediation.
