Rare Coins: Why Apex Gold Silver Coin Only Buys Graded Rare Coins
When a coin’s value depends on rarity and condition, we buy it only when it has already been graded by an established third-party grading service. Here is why.
Why graded
- Authenticity. Rare coins are often counterfeited, and dates or mint marks can be altered. An established grading service checks for this.
- Grade drives value. Small differences in condition can change a rare coin’s value a lot, and grading a raw coin by eye is subjective.
- Cleaning and damage. Cleaning, repairs and damage can be hard to see but change value sharply. Graded coins are checked for these problems.
- Fair pricing for both sides. A graded coin gives the seller and the buyer the same starting point, and it is easier to resell.
Have a coin you think is rare but ungraded? Leave it as it is and don’t clean it. We can tell you whether it is one we would buy for metal value.
