This has been a major year for us at the HODINKEE Shop. In March, we re-launched with an entirely new way of shopping for watch accessories and for vintage watches. In the spring, we launched a pen in collaboration with no one short of Marc Newson and Montblanc. This fall we worked with Zenith and then NOMOS to create products that we thought represented the very best of what they had to offer, with you, our readers in mind. As it stands, we have over 1,000 people on the waiting list for those two watches combined. We now know that there is real appetite for products that respect their origins while putting a twist on the status quo, and it is with that in mind that we are proud to launch the 2016 HODINKEE Holiday Gift Collection.
These products are more approachable than the watches and pens you’ve seen from us in the past, but offer a similar aesthetic, all the while providing a nod to the watches we love so much, and they all make fantastic gifts. I’ll take you through some of the highlights below.
The Watch Movement Scarf, Exclusively From HODINKEE
There isn’t anything in the world that says holiday more than a great scarf. Our team, I would say, is fairly replete with scarf enthusiasts, and we thought it would be fun to take something that all of us wear as second skin this time of year and give it a little horological twist. As such, we’ve created the world’s first Watch Movement Scarf. Made of 100% cashmere, this dark grey scarf features subtle prints of components of a watch movement. It’s not overwhelming, and when tied around the neck, few would even be able to place the pattern at all â but we love the idea of this scarf being a secret tell to other watch lovers that you are part of the gang. You can buy it here.
We were so happy with how our Watch Lovers Scarf came out, we decided to go ahead and do a few other colors and patterns in the same 100% cashmere and you can order any of our four scarves right here.
The HODINKEE Water Bottle, By Sigg (Made In Switzerland)
Something else team HODINKEE always has with us on the road is a good, high quality water bottle. There is no better bottle-maker in the world than Sigg, a century-old company that manufactures its bottles in, you guessed it, Switzerland, and has been doing so since 1908. The Sigg water bottle is an icon of 20th century design, and one resides in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art.
We are thrilled to partner with this bastion of Swiss manufacturing on these aluminum bottles featuring a black matte finish with subtle HODINKEE branding on one side. You can order them here.
The Watch Collector’s Trivia Notebook
This is a fun one. We all use notebooks to record everything there is to know about all the hundreds, if not thousands, of watches team HODINKEE sees each year. And we’ve learned so much doing what we do â so we thought we’d share a little bit of knowledge via a special collaboration to make the ultimate watch lover’s notebook. First, the thing is just beautiful, with subtle “H” embossing on the cover. Second, we’ve included a special section for you to list off your “grail watches,” and finally, on every few pages, you will find a little-known fact about watchmaking written by our own editorial team.
This black notebook features a silk placeholder, rich off-white paper, and a solid design that ensures a constant lie-flat position (trust us, that’s a big deal). This one makes an amazing gift and you can buy it here.
A Small Number Of Paul Newman Prints
The image seen here is arguably the most iconic photograph ever taken of a sports chronograph, and it was taken of Mr. Paul Newman by legendary pop-culture photographer Al Satterwhite. Here you can see Mr. Newman wearing his now iconic Rolex Cosmograph Daytona in full race attire â and this is a limited run of prints, all coming signed and numbered by the artist himself. If you’re a motorsport and chronograph collector, this is one of the most beautiful things in the world. You can order it here in two difference sizes.
A New Collection Of Straps (The Best We’ve Ever Made)
Ah, the HODINKEE strap â the item that launched this very shop five years ago. We take a lot pride in offering new styles of straps that can completely change the way a watch looks, and we are also working hard to come up with new ideas. We now have what is absolutely, positively, indisputably the coolest, most high-quality, and most beautiful strap collection in the world. Above you see an example of our new smooth tan calfskin strap made out of barenia leather. These are just incredible, look amazing on just about anything, and you can get them here.
We’ve also been working on creating a strap that is, in my belief, perfectly suited for vintage chronographs and represents that Italian sense of style that so many of us look for in our older watches. You can see these textured calf straps in not only tan, but now in grey, taupe, and dark brown (and we’ve added a 21mm option for all four colors).
New Cases For Eight And Ten Watches
A request we’ve received many times is for cases not so much suited for travel, but rather for storage. So, we’ve come up with two different solutions â one for ten watches, the other for eight, and you can’t go wrong with either.
These ten-watch folios are super thin, offering up the space for five watches per side. We’ve constructed them to be so thin so that you can actually fit them stacked on top of each other inside a safe or safety deposit box. They come in black or brown and you can get them here.
Our eight watch box is a little more luxurious and is better suited for those who need the protection of a more padded box. This one is also better for those who have watches on solid bracelets (think Nautilus or Royal Oak) and need some space for storage.
Have a look at our world-famous eight watch box with padding and storage right here.
A Re-Stock Of Our Most Popular Books
Our world-famous book shop has also been re-stocked for the holiday seasons and that means the incredible Pucci Day-Date book is available (if you like watches, you must own this book). If Tudor is more your thing, we have the Tudor Anthology back in stock, and we even have a few copies of our own Jack Forster’s book on Cartier watches.
If you haven’t had a look at all the horological books we offer, please do, because as you know, the more you know about watches, the more you realize you know almost nothing at all. Check out the full selection here.
A Special Selection Of Holiday Rare Finds
Finally, because this is the holidays, we thought we’d share with you some of the absolute coolest vintage accessories we’ve come across this year. We’ve put a decidedly wintery-twist on this mix of products and, man, they are beautiful. Think silver champagne buckets, Hermes pocket watches, Baccarat decanters, and Cartier lighters. You can check out the full collection of holiday Rare Finds here.
Oh, And Over 300 Other Different Straps, Pouches, Rolls, Books, Tools, And Watches
Did I forget to mention we also have over 300 different other products in the shop right now? We do, and that includes every different kind of strap imaginable, rolls, pouches, tools, books, oh, and yes, vintage watches. Have a look here and happy holidays!
